Some iPhone App Statistics

February 20th, 2009
Came across this presentation in which is discussed some statistics about iPhone App trends. It looks at relationships between free and paid applications, the relationship between price and download numbers, the length of application useage and how this degrades over time, useage retention between paid and free apps by application category (games, entertainment, sports, lifestyle etc.) and whether apps should incorporate an ad model or not and what conditions make it economically worthwhile.

Events coming up

February 6th, 2009

There’s a few events coming up in Dublin that maybe of interest to people. There’s the Dublin Twestival which is a Tweet up happening in The Sycamore club in Temple Bar, which is on the 12th February at 6pm. And then the Digital Media Island Forum is organising a Innovaton Day day in the Radisson Hotel on Tuesday 24th February which is geared towards  those with an interest in Digital media and software companies. Anton Mannering organises them, and I was at one pre-Christmas, out in the Digital Media Centre in the IT college in Dun Laoighre – which was very well organised. This one has a good line up of speakers including Chris Horn from Iona, Pat Phelan from MaxRoam and Steve Collins previously of  Havok. There’s also a BizCamp being organised in Dublin Saturday  March 7th in the Digital Hub. This is aimed at start-ups and is being organised by Keith Bohanna (as far as I know).

Loads of other events going on – so keep the peelers out and stay informed:-))

Martin Luther King “I have a dream” speech

January 19th, 2009

Very cool 16 minute long video of MLK delivering his speech in Washington in 1963. Beautiful cadence in his speech patterns. An amazingly substantive speech and one which took enormous courage when you bear in mind what was going on in the States at time. Take the time and have a look.

Plane in the Hudson

January 17th, 2009

Video from last week of the plane landing in the Hudson. The plane can be seen from two minutes in, coming in from the left hand side of the screen. Everyone gets out on to the wings pretty much immediately and then a couple of mins later the boats arrive to pick them up. All in all an amazing story.
